Hi, I am Sofia, one of the
most important things in this trip
was that we had to learn about the
reefs. Sue Brown was the marine
biologist on board, who was going
to be teaching us about how to
perform the Reef Check and the
importance of them.
The first thing had she did was to
explain the procedure of the Reef
Check. The first thing you do is
to reach down 100m around the
floor after we had laid down the
measuring tape, we each did our
parts. My part was to check every
two meters and to describe what I
saw. Sometimes I saw sand, others
dead reef, live reef or rocks. I
notice that when it was dead reef,
there were no colours and when the
reef was alive, there were colours
range, green etc… Sometimes
there were plants called algae and
others there was a black thing
called sponge. It was interesting
and nice to see all the things
down there. I felt really proud of
myself when I was able to
recognise sponge, algae and dead
from alive reef. Now I feel really
thankful to Sue because now I know
more things about sea and I cannot
wait for the next Reef Check! |
