The incredible water colour.

Sam Cornish in New York!

Sarah Gerhard on Pirate Hill.

18th March 2004

We finally arrived in the Caribbean Islands. Chelsea, Sam and myself flew all the way from Australia and met Sarah in New York. When we first arrived, the first thing we all noticed and all agreed on was the color of the water. From the plane it was looking all turquoise/ blue/green, crystal water, just like on a painting.
The boat and the crew were waiting for us next to luxury yachts. First a little swim to have a taste of the water temperature; a bit chilly with the wind.

19th March 2003

We spent the night in the port. Its raining today and the waves are not at the "rendezvous". Looks like we are not gonna have our first surf today. Anyway we decide to go a bit of adventuring on the island. We drove the car to the end of the island next to a hill. Horny explains to us quickly the history of this hill. Apparently a boat with pirates crashed here in the 18th century. We decided to climb up the hill. At the top, were rocks and they each had a little something written on them. The pirates wrote on the rocks their names with dates. Some of them had little drawings such as houses and churches. That was pretty cool and interesting.

20th March 2004

We finally left the port during the night. We kinda had the whole day sailing the boat to find some unexpected waves. I am feeling really seasick so I have been in bed all day. Every time I have tried to stand up out of my bed, I get a huge headache and feel I'm going to fall down. I hope it will get better.

21st March 2004

Today we had a few hours more of sailing, so still in bed watching DVDs on my computer. In the middle of the day, we finally stopped the boat in front of an Island. We decided to take the little boat on a drive to the beach. We had a little walk on the beach but nobody seemed to be living on the island. We did a bit of snorkeling and the sand is just so white and perfect. Sam and I are on the beach just talking shit, saying we are gonna be crazy if the swell doesn't come through.

22nd March 2004

Apparently someone heard us yesterday. Oliver the captain of the boat woke us up this morning yelling, "Waves girls, 4 to 6 foot maybe move lets go". Chelsea and I jumped out of bed, just took 10 minutes for a bowl of cereal and there we are in the water. Sami was ripping out there, charging and getting a few barrels. I had some really good take offs on big waves. We just were all so happy to finally get to surf, that we ended up spending the whole morning in the water (4 hours). We had a second surf in the afternoon, a bit smaller but way cleaner than this morning. Had a couple of good ones and did some nice turns out there. I'm pretty stoked to have such luck and be here in the middle of nowhere surfing a wave, which has never been surfed before.

23rd March 2004

There is not much to say about today cause we sailed all day long. Rachel is coming tomorrow so we have to wait here at another island.
Oh yeah one thing, I don't feel seasick anymore, great! And about the wave we surfed yesterday, apparently that right-hander was never surfed before so we named it and now its official, we surfed "Boobies".

24th, 25th, 26th March 2004

We are definitely unlucky with the swell and the weather. The problem is the wind. Indeed there is a lot of swell for the Caribbean's. The weather is stormy, rainy and horribly windy. So in the days that we have been here, we've only surfed once. That was a really good day but we defiantly need more. So all the days are a bit similar. We don't even sail anymore cause its the same everywhere so it will be a waste of money. So we try to entertain ourselves by playing backgammon or cards, watch movies, do a bit of exploring on the island but there isn't too much to see, just a small village. We went for lunch over there and said bye to Sarah who had to go back to Santa Cruz for work.
