Miami Beach Surf Camp

On May 22nd, Matt Kechele kicked off the Quiksilver Crossing North American Tour with the Miami Beach surf camp. As the camp started, Kechele briefed his loyal campers on the mission and accomplishments of The Quiksilver Crossing. Soon the kids were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Indies Trader, and were not let down when they spotted the beautifully painted vessel approaching. The boat anchored 100 yards off the beach, giving the campers a good perspective of the size of the boat.

Deerfield Beach Surf Camp

Deerfield Beach was the next site for an infamous Matt Kechele surf camp. Here, hundreds of kids attended the camp while The Quiksilver Crossing sat just outside of the surf.

Press Conference and Education day

The next day was the main event; a press conference/education day. The mayor of Miami, David Dermer, Dr.'s Sarah Gerhardt (Roxy) and Craig Shuman (ReefCheck representative), and Quiksilver's Roger Russell and Taylor Whisenand were the featured speakers to sixty or more school kids and various television and print media. Pete Mel, Jon Rose, and Strider were on hand telling surf stories and having lunch with the kids after they toured the boat. The tours were guided by Dana Mesenbrink and Simone Kelly; our bubbly Aussie tour guide. The event went off, just a feel-good vibe with a lot of interaction between the kids and everyone involved with The Quiksilver Crossing.

VIP Cruises

The next couple days we held VIP cruises for various accounts, reps, etc, and actually motored out a couple miles and swam, snorkeled, and treated our guests to some relaxation time together in the open sea. It was great to see everyone together letting their hair down and enjoying their selves. We had over 280 people tour the boat throughout the week.
