The Quiksilver
Crossing visited its last
scheduled stop for the East Coast
USA tour, Galveston, Texas.
There were cruises for VIP's,
staff and sponsored surfers. One
of the highlights was the pod of
dolphins that escorted the boat
during the cruises.
The Galveston
main event was a great success. A
room had been hired at the
Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant.
There were banners, posters,
Explorations magazines, stickers,
a monitor showing the Crossing DVD
as well as a projector screening
Kelly Slater and the Young Guns
and Timmy Turner Second
Thoughts.....all going on as the
Indies Trader moored right outside
the restaurant. The crowd varied
from families with young children
to the local Galveston surfing
community at large. It was a great
show of support from the Texan
surfers.
The Indies Trader
open day was also a great success.
Tours were ran from midday until
6pm and in that time we had 190
visitors to the boat. Many of the
visitors had come from Corpus
Christi along with other
neighboring surf areas. Local surf
photographer G Scott snapped away
all day and captured the essence
of the visit to Texas.
Being back in
salt water and being surrounded by
surfers again did great things for
the morale of the crew. Local surf
shop owner and the pioneer of ‘oil
tanker surfing’ James Fulbright
treated Dovi and Guy to a session
in this anomalous way to catch
waves. James was featured in the
recent DVD ‘Stepping into liquid”
and offered to take the the crew
for a session of oil tanker
surfing.
