April 1999 Coral Sea
First Reef Check

During the first trip of the Quiksilver Crossing, Kelly Slater, Veronica Kay, Stephen Slater and Troy Brooks carried out the first official Reef Check. Untouched virgin reefs were found in a pristine state with no evidence of environmental damage or human intervention. Kelly Slater wrote in his journal, "I will go on record to say there is no better fishing or diving on earth."
