In March 1999,
Quiksilver launched the Crossing to
explore for new surfing breaks in remote
locations; to document the state of the
coral reefs for the United
Nations-supported environment program,
Reef Check; and to have empathy for the
local culture and customs.
In September 2001, Quiksilver announced
that the Crossing would continue until
November 2005 and would circumnavigate
